Biophotonics, the science behind, and most beneficial applications in Clinical Dentistry

The "Dental Academy of Biophotonics" was founded with the aim to help dental professionals acquire practical knowledge in Biophotonics, and immediately apply it to their clinical needs at the different dental spheres.
Biophotonics in dentistry is an interdisciplinary field that combines the principles of biology and photonics (the physical science of the light) to promotes innovative theragnostic approaches for oral health. light-based technologies
as lasers, fluorescence based devices and dyes help identify, guide and treat dental diseases such as tooth decay, periodontitis, peri-implantitis and oral cancer.
Specific examples of these technologies in dentistry include: using fluorescence to detect hidden caries or abnormal oral mucosa, using laser-based systems to remove tooth decay and prepare teeth for fillings, and using light-activated agents to eliminate periodontopathogenic bacteria that cause gum disease and peri-implantitis.

The academy was founded by world-renowned bio-luminescence researcher Prof. Liviu Steier, med. dent from the University of Pennsylvania and his peer Dr. Gal Hiltch.
Upcoming Course

1: Introduction to Dental Biophotonics; Covering the A-Z fundamentals.
Cariology, Periodontology and Implantology.

Dental biophotonics
The interaction between light and the biological background constitutes the science of biophotonics. In clinical dentistry, biophotonics enhances disease diagnosis in every sub-speciality, turning the invisible visible and helping move away from the classic principle of “extension for prevention” towards “minimal invasiveness.”
